Toshiba ramps up NAND flash production

Expecting Demand for NAND Flash to Increase, Toshiba is Investing More in a Factory to Produce Related Products. As a result, the total capacity of the lines should be 30 thousand. 300mm plates per month, which is 40% higher than previously planned.

The factory is expected to reach full capacity in April 2021. The total investment by that time will be approximately 352 million. Doll. Toshiba and Sandisk participate in the project on equal terms.

Toshiba now ships about 450 million units per month (based on 64-megabit chips), and this figure will increase to 750 million by the end of the year.

At the same time, Toshiba’s semiconductor business is experiencing some difficulties due to lower prices for flash memory (a vivid illustration of yesterday’s announcement of the situation in the NAND market). According to a company spokesman, the price of NAND chips has dropped by about 60% compared to last year. As a result, revenue from the sale of semiconductor devices in the first quarter amounted to 2 billion. Doll., which is 4% less than a year ago. Toshiba executives expect renewed surge in NAND demand to help keep prices within acceptable range.
