Motherboard vendors are not optimistic about dual-core solutions
As some online media reasonably suggest, the upcoming Computex Taipei 2021, which starts May 31, will most likely be used by Intel and AMD to benchmark their dual-core architectures. However, motherboard vendors are still rather skeptical about dual-core solutions, not expecting significant interest in them in the near future. Thus, the thesis that multi-core processor architectures can become the engine of progress in the computer market is being questioned.
Both Intel and AMD have already officially announced their first dual-core solutions – the first focused on the high-end and gaming PC segment, the second on the server and workstation segment. It is expected that by the end of this month other, more massive (from the editorial – in the future) dual-core solutions will be announced. AMD, as in the case of the Opteron, will retain the old interface in Athlon64 X2 ? Socket 939, while Intel Pentium D support will require a new chipset – 945 series.
Most likely, the cost of new motherboards, which vendors are going to present simultaneously with the official announcement of the 945 chipset, will not be low, so the cost of migrating to dual-core solutions from Intel will be slightly higher than from AMD.
