Microsoft announces new Windows operating system name and first beta release date

Microsoft announced the name of the next generation Microsoft Windows operating system to a wide audience. The new operating system, previously codenamed “Longhorn”, is called Windows Vista. The new version of Windows provides high security and reliability of data, easy work with information and compatibility with all modern means of communication.

According to Microsoft, the name Windows Vista is intended to reflect the new capabilities of the operating system and its benefits for users.

The first beta version, aimed at developers and IT professionals, will be released on August 3, 2021. It includes all the technical capabilities developed to date and clearly presents the foundations of the new system architecture. The first beta is released to give IT audiences a first impression of the new operating system. In accordance with the results of the first stage of beta testing, the custom functions of the system will be finalized, which will then be presented in the second beta version. The characteristics and capabilities of the final version of Windows Vista, which is scheduled for release in 2021, are heavily dependent on the feedback, comments and suggestions collected after the release of the beta versions.

Why “Vista”?

According to the creators of Windows Vista, its name quite accurately reflects the benefits that the new operating system gives users. Translated into Russian, “vista” means “new opportunities”, “opening prospects”. Windows Vista is a product that will be used around the world by millions of people with different knowledge, life experiences and attitudes. And the new brand highlights the wide, global application of the OS.

The name of the new OS was chosen carefully and consistently. Originally,
as a result of conducted research, the name was determined and approved by Microsoft employees. After that “Vista” was tested in
several regions of the world using focus groups and in-depth interviews. Most of the respondents surveyed felt that it was Windows Vista that corresponded to the significant changes that were made to the new operating system.

Windows Vista gives users a new experience

Using Windows Vista will provide users with a high level of security and data protection, simple and clear information management, and wide compatibility with different devices. Windows Vista will allow you to make the most of your previous computer experience, and in the future develop these skills and improve. At the same time, the new operating system is convenient for the widest range of users, from ordinary consumers to government agencies and large enterprises.

Windows Vista is created as a reliable and comfortable operating system. The main efforts of developers are concentrated in three areas:

  • Confidentiality and reliability of data storage
    • Safety. Integrated anti-virus capabilities will help protect users from infecting your computer with advertisements, various programs that illegally collect information from an infected computer, “phishing” and other types of fraud and attempts to hack the data protection system. The use of secure user profiles will significantly reduce the likelihood of penetration and injection of malicious
code. Safe Start will protect user data and ensure that the computer running Windows Vista is not infected.

    • User Account Protection (UAP). Companies can reduce the risk to their employees’ computer systems and protect data without impacting productivity. This can be achieved through the use of “Standard User Accounts”.
    • Safe Start Function. Windows Vista’s advanced data protection technologies help ensure that information stored on your company’s mobile computers remains confidential, even if your computer is lost or stolen. Using the full scope of encryption, as well as using hardware components to store the encryption key, will make it impossible for crackers and those who are trying to steal user information.
  • Simplicity and convenience in information management
    • Search. Powerful integrated search capabilities help you find any information on your computer without manually searching.
    • Organization. New information management tools make it easy to view and organize files in the way users want them. “Live Icons” show a thumbnail of the first page of an existing document, not a symbol of the program in which this document was created. Now there is no need to remember exactly where the file was saved. With one click of the mouse, the user can instantly see all the files stored on the computer. Documents can be created or organized by author, topic, or keywords, and music files ? by song title, album or artist name. Windows Vista filters and indexes document metadata, allowing users to create virtual folders so that they are automatically populated with documents that have user-specified properties.
    • Advanced image processing and reproduction. A basic document processing tool, codenamed “Metro”, will give users the ability to create documents, manage their content, and print and archive those files. This significantly increases the quality of the document, its characteristics associated with color, graphics and printing. Metro uses open standards such as XML, XAML and ZIP so that documents can be used across a wide variety of devices and applications.
  • Communication and communication
    • Synchronizing data with different devices. It can be difficult for the user to update and synchronize information at once on all personal computers, file servers and other devices such as mobile phones and pocket computers. Windows Vista provides a single platform for quickly and easily configuring these devices and keeping information updated everywhere.
    • Mobility. With Windows Vista, mobile computers turn on almost instantly and conserve power for longer thanks to improved power management. The operating system is designed to support the latest wireless standards, allowing you to use the capabilities of mobile personal computers in more locations and for a longer period of time than currently.
  • Windows Vista new operating system logo
    • Windows Vista will have a new logo. This logo graphically conveys changes in the perception of the new operating system and better reflects its appearance and essence, including the new “glass” user interface.
