DisplaySearch Reports LCD Monitors Share 63% Q1 Shipments

Renowned analyst company DisplaySearch in its report on the state of the monitor market for the first quarter of 2021 concluded that worldwide shipments of LCD monitors increased by 7% compared to the previous quarter and amounted to 22.7 million units. Compared to last year, this figure has increased by 44%. One of the main reasons for the rapid growth is the decline in retail prices. In the first quarter, prices for the three most popular monitor sizes were: $ 199 for 15-inch models, $ 299 for 17-inch models, 399 for 19-inch models. As a result, the conquest of the market by LCD monitors continued and led to an increase in their share in the total supply to 63.6%.

More companies are integrating LCD monitors into entry-level turnkey systems, according to DisplaySearch. As a result, the share of monitors based on cathode ray tubes is steadily declining. The largest market for LCD monitors turned out to be the market of Europe, Middle East and Asia (Europe, Middle East and Africa, EMEA). In the first quarter of 2021, shipments to these regions accounted for 41% of global. North America came in second with 31.6%.

Dell was again the world leader in terms of volume – 20.2% of global shipments. It is followed by Samsung, HP, Acer and LGE. The market shares of the top five suppliers for the first quarter are summarized in the table:

Manufacturer
Market share in Q1 2021

eight%
Samsung
nine.7%
3%
HP

Acer

LGE

While 24 “models are gaining momentum, the most popular sizes remain 15, 17 and 19”. The trio accounted for 96.7% of all LCD monitors shipped in the first quarter. It is symptomatic that the share of 15-inches is decreasing, 17-inches is increasing (by 11.1% compared to the previous quarter, to 58.4% of the total volume), but the largest growth was shown by 19-inch models: 45.2% for the quarter, “biting off” in the end 18.3% of the total pie.
