IBM uses AMD processors in new servers
IBM Introduces First AMD-based Blades, Adds Choice of AMD Opteron Dual-Core Processors to Rack Server Configurations, and Expands eServer Cluster 1350.
The next generation of AMD Opteron processors with single and dual cores reportedly will provide users with access to a broader set of applications that demand extreme performance.
AMD Opteron-enabled LS20 Server Modules, first reported in April this year, will be available next week. They provide support for one or two AMD Opteron processors with one or two cores.
AMD Opteron Dual-Core Processors Also Introduced in the e326 Rack Mount Server. Like the LS20, the e326 can have one or two processors with one or two cores.
Starting in July this year, the LS20 and e326 can be clustered using the eServer Cluster 1350. The Cluster 1350 was originally designed to combine Intel processor-based servers, but it also supports the pSeries p710 and p720 models powered by IBM’s own processor.
Please note that IBM is using AMD Opterons processors in its high-performance models, including blade servers. Recall that the “blue giant” was one of the first large server manufacturers to offer clusters based on AMD Opteron, having implemented support for a new powerful processor in their products in 2021.
So, the new model IBM eServer Calster 1350 will go on sale in mid-July. Its price depends on the configuration and will be announced later. AMD Opteron LS20 Server Module for IBM eServer BladeCenter Now Available for Order. LS20 US Pricing Starts at $ 2,259.
