IDF: New microarchitecture will fit all platforms

The new architecture, some details of which Intel disclosed at the IDF forum, will be used in all three platforms: mobile, desktop and server.

Models from the mobile processor family, codenamed Merom, will have two cores, lower TDP values, optimized for power consumption.

As for the desktop Conroe family, its members will also be dual-core, but since power consumption is not as important for them as for mobile, the TDP target is fixed at 65W. In addition, different Conroe variants will have different L2 cache sizes. At the same time, the compactness and low power consumption will make it possible to build systems of a reduced form factor on the basis of these processors (an example of such a product, the GoldenGate computer, you see in the picture in the hands of the speaker).

Third segment – server processors. Here we are waiting for an approximately 40% reduction in TDP, 2 or 4 cores, an even wider choice of L2 cache size options and support for multiprocessor configurations.

It remains to say about one common feature of all three families – the corresponding products are planned to be produced at 65 nm.
