LG Electronics Initiates Home Networking Standardization Consortium
LG Electronics (LG) ? one of the leaders in the design and implementation of a “home network” connecting household appliances using a cable or wireless connection. Currently, the company’s specialists are developing a programming interface (API) for a system that complies with the standard of communication between devices over a power supply network.
The company initiated the creation of a consortium of developers of home networks LnCP (Living Network Control Protocol). The consortium includes Daewoo Electronics, SK C&C, Honeywell Korea. Partners will receive the right to use the developed API free of charge in their household appliances. Thus, a control protocol for home networks has been defined, which makes it possible to standardize equipment supplied by different manufacturers and combine it in one system, providing the consumer with the possibility of centralized control.
The benefits of cooperation in a consortium for its participants are obvious: the development of joint projects, participation in thematic exhibitions, an agreed advertising policy. LG’s contribution to an accessible application interface for all partners will enable the future to look forward to global standardization of home appliances for home networking.
At the same time, for Korea, home networks ? this is no longer the future, but the present day. According to Fortune, Korea ? the fastest growing country in the world. This is largely supported by the support of the Ministry of Information and Communications, which, this year alone, in partnership with LG, plans to invest $ 55 million in the construction of 1.5 million homes with network access. This step ? part of a long-term government initiative to build 10 million connected homes nationwide by the end of 2021. The total investment in the project is $ 2 billion.
Home appliance manufacturers keep up with the times. Offering the first commercial home network project in 2000, LG has since developed several familiar home appliances that take into account Internet connectivity, including ? air conditioner, microwave and washing machine.
