Lenovo will manufacture servers with ECS
Yesterday ECS (Elitegroup Computer Systems) entered into a partnership agreement with Lenovo, according to which the Taiwanese company will begin supplying server solutions to the Chinese manufacturer.
ECS expects Lenovo shipments (planned to reach 5,000-10,000 per month by the end of the year) will allow the company to increase revenue by about 10%.
Lenovo is currently ranked ninth in the x86-based server market with a 0.5% share, according to IDC (Q1 2021 data). It is noteworthy that in the previous quarter Lenovo controlled 0.6% and was in eighth place. It is possible that the partnership with ECS will allow the Chinese company, which acquired the IBM laptop division for a month and a half, to reach a higher level.
In turn, ECS is the last of the major Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers not to make a name for itself in the server solutions market. Other Taiwanese firms; ASUS, Gigabyte and (MSI) have long entered the server motherboard market, where profit margins are higher than the PC board market.
