MRV Increases Optical Channel Density on LambdaDriver Platforms
MRV company announced the release of new models of optical multiplexers and demultiplexers for the LambdaDriver platform with an official press release. These passive devices allow for the transmission of up to 16 CWDM channels on the basis of a compact 4.5U LambdaDriver-800 chassis and up to 8 channels using a LambdaDriver-400 with a height of only 2U.
The EM800-DMUX16 / CW and EM800-DMUX8 / CW modules use Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) technology to transmit 16 data channels in the 1310 to 1610 nm wavelength range. They are single-slot modules for the LambdaDriver-800 chassis, when used in conjunction with dual-channel TM2-SFP transponders, this system can be fully equipped with emitters for all 16 CWDM wavelengths, while leaving free slots in the chassis for installing a CWDM trunk redundancy module and module for organizing the service control channel.
The use of these modules allows you to double the throughput of CWDM systems based on LambdaDriver-800, bringing it to a maximum of 40 Gbps. With this configuration, the LambdaDriver-800 is the industry’s most compact CWDM platform providing full spectrum operation. However, it should be borne in mind that the full use of the advantages of 16-channel CWDM compression is possible only with special new generation cables that do not have an attenuation “dip” in the 1350-1410 nm region. Otherwise, the range of operation of such systems will be limited to relatively short distances.
Also, the throughput of the most compact chassis of this family – LambdaDriver-400 – has been doubled. The new EM800-DMUX8 / CW single-slot modules combine the functionality of a CWDM multiplexer and demultiplexer for 8 channels (from 1470 to 1610 nm) and, using dual-channel TM2-SFP transponders, ensure their transfer using a chassis with a height of only 2U.
