ATI R520, RV515, and RV530 GPUs Production Ready

ATI’s next-generation GPUs have been tested by the PCI-SIG group, which guides the development of PCI and PCI Express buses and devices. This means that the chips already exist in final revision and are ready for mass production.

According to the current PCI Express Integrators List, desktop chips R520 ATI, R520 GL, RV515 XT and RV530 XT have been successfully tested. In addition, it follows from the list that there are new ATI mobile products, which may be based on the new R520 architecture and will be manufactured according to the same technological process. These are the M52GL, M54GL, M56 and M58 chips, which are also officially recognized as compatible with the PCI Express bus.

This list includes products that have passed PCI-SIG testing and are ready for serial production.

As you know, the so-called “R5 series” will support Shader Model 3.0 and other innovations in the field of graphics accelerators, which required ATI developers to completely revise the chip architecture. Detailed specifications of R520 and other chips have not yet been published, although some information about ATI’s plans is already known.

According to ATI, R520, R520 GL and RV515 products will be manufactured at 90nm by TSMC. Graphics card makers likely to receive next-generation chips this month. In the meantime, so that the time in anticipation of new products does not drag on so slowly, the company has reduced prices for existing products.
