Another opinion on the prospects of the DRAM market: Transcend
How many copies were broken when writing different versions of the DRAM market forecasts, but since not all manufacturers have expressed their opinion on this topic, Transcend decided to share its opinion with the public. According to the chairman of the board of directors of the company Peter Shu, the resource for reducing prices has been exhausted, and this applies not only to DDR, but also to DDR2 memory. Transcend believes that the day is not far off when further price cuts for NAND flash will also become impossible.
Currently, there is a tendency to continue to reduce prices for DDR2-400 MG, however, Shu believes, this is only due to the fact that vendors are simply getting rid of the accumulated surplus of goods. Thus, Transcend concludes that the DRAM market is currently in the depths of yet another “potential hole”.
Note, however, that the reasons for Transcend’s pessimism lie in the fact that, according to the results of the last quarter, the company’s profit margin fell from 15% (in the first quarter) to 11-12%. However, observers expect that in the second half of this year, demand will start to grow, in which case the profit margin of the memory manufacturer may rise again to 15% in the third quarter.
