HP joins the ranks of AMD dual-core server manufacturers

Hewlett Packard has added new models to its ProLiant line of servers, joining major server vendors IBM and Sun, which have already introduced servers based on AMD Opteron processors with two cores.

Since the release of the high-performance AMD Opteron processor in April this year, the number of products based on it, offered by major suppliers, is growing steadily. As a reminder, IBM has released the LS20 blade server and added the corresponding configuration option to the eServer iSeries 326 rack server. Sun Microsystems is offering the SunFire V40z server for up to four processors and plans to launch a dual-processor version of the SunFire V20z soon.

New HP Server Launched to Celebrate 10 Millionth ProLiant Model Shipment. ProLiant launched in 1993. It took seven years to deliver the first million ProLiant servers to customers, but sales are now booming. According to the company, the transition of servers to processors with two cores is a market trend. HP expects that already next year a significant percentage of sales will fall on these models.

New ProLiant servers include: DL385 – Opteron version, formerly known as DL380 (Xeon version), starting at $ 3,299.; DL145 G2 ($ 1219.); two blades – BL25p ($ 3099.) and BL35p ($ 3,599.).
