AMD Announces AMD64 Longevity Program
AMD, which recently introduced the ECC-capable AMD Opteron 100 Series processors, announced that its AMD Opteron dual-core processors are now available as part of the AMD64 Longevity Program. As stated in the official press release, the company’s efforts are aimed at better meeting the needs of projects based on the use of embedded processors, which place increased demands on a stable, long-term development program (roadmap). AMD Opteron 165, 265 and 865 dual-core processor models, as well as 55W power-efficient versions of each, will be available for five years, according to the company’s plans. This will enable embedded designers to realize the full potential of x86-compatible dual-core technology.
