Stanley Electric High Brightness LEDs
At the Yokohama trade show, Stanley Electric showcased white LEDs delivering 180 lumens of light output at 6 W of its own power. For comparison – a conventional 40 W incandescent lamp emits a luminous flux of about 250-300 lumens.
Applications include automotive headlights, lamps, LCD panel backlights. The company plans to start mass production of products in December 2021.
To obtain a white glow, a technique of mixing blue light emitted by an LED and yellow light emitted by a fluorescent material is used. The result is the so-called “pseudo-white” color. The company unveils prototypes of a street lamp and car headlight built from pseudo-white LEDs and optical systems.
To obtain high brightness (the luminous flux of 180 lumens is a lot for an LED, even by modern standards), Stanley specialists increased the cooling efficiency of the crystal by adding a ceramic base on which four light-emitting elements are placed. To improve the directional properties of the module, a metal reflective plate was additionally installed – a kind of mirror. The size of the emitting module is 5.9 x 11.5 x 1.1 mm, while the actual white light emitting element is 2.4 x 5.6 mm.
