Ramtron International Corporation began production of the FM20L08 chip, which is a 1 Mbit non-volatile ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) in a 32-pin thin TSOP package.

FM20L08 provides unlimited read / write cycles and the highest storage density compared to other Ramtron products. The product is positioned as a promising replacement for static random access memory (SRAM) in data collection and storage systems operating in unstable power conditions, when its voltage may change or completely disappear. The main improvement over the existing FRAM product line is that the FM20L08 is fully SRAM compatible. Implemented support for synchronization with address change detection (ATM), allowing addresses to be changed while keeping the chip active. Ease of use was one of the main goals of Ramtron when designing the FM20L08.
