BenQ to release Blu-ray drive in early 2021

While Sony ramps up recording speeds to dual-layer DVDs, BenQ has announced plans to launch a next-generation Blu-Ray drive, also promoted by Sony, in early 2021.

It is difficult to say what the outcome of the battle between the two titans behind the Blu-ray and HD DVD standards will be (maybe the parties will come to a peaceful consensus), but BenQ has already decided for itself that it will take the side of the BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association) , and the company has already demonstrated its drive during the Computex 2021 exhibition.

By the way, the already mentioned Sony is also planning to launch Blu-ray on the market, and also early next year.

Another Taiwanese manufacturer, Lite-On IT, has not yet decided on support for the next generation standards. The source hints that the company is likely to apply technologies that use shortwave (“blue”) lasers.
