Cisco plans to enter new markets, but will not buy Nokia

Cisco Systems, which has successfully established itself in new markets where it has entered over the past few years, plans to expand its range of interests. We are talking about entering another five or six new markets for “advanced technology” in the next year or two. This statement was made by the head of the company John Chambers last week. No specific areas of interest were named, but rumors of a possible purchase of cell phone maker Nokia have been denied.

Analysis of the financial statements for the past period shows that clients from large businesses account for approximately 45% of the company’s revenue, but revenue growth in this sector has slowed down very much. Small and medium-sized customers of Cisco’s core business, as well as participation in other types of commercial activities, turned out to be a more dynamic area of work: the growth of indicators for the year here exceeded 20%.

Chambers noted that several years ago, Cisco, along with most other information technology companies, experienced difficulties after the Internet boom bubbles burst. Then it was decided to invest in several areas, united by the term “advanced technologies”. The investment has been successful in the corporate IP communications, security, WLAN, home networking, storage and optical communications markets.

Specifically, IP communications, security, and wireless have become Cisco’s leading billion-dollar businesses. Moreover, growth in these markets continues, and the company intends to introduce a second wave of technological solutions designed for them, and then repeat this scenario every three or four months during the next financial year.

Separately, it was said that there is no talk about buying Nokia. Chambers said it is extremely unlikely that the company will make such a major acquisition. It is more likely to acquire a small private company, which has about 100 employees, and only recently entered the stage when it began to make a profit.
