Intel: release dual-core Xeon ahead of schedule
Intel Corp. to Release Server Platforms Based on Dual-Core Processors with Hyper-Threading Technology ahead of schedule.

graph, Intel announced dual-core Intel Xeon and Intel Xeon MP processors with Hyper-Threading Technology. New processors will help improve server responsiveness, speed and multitasking by allowing software to manage information using up to four cores in each Intel processor. In addition, Intel has launched a program to test thousands of dual-core platforms for software developers and enterprise customers.

Intel plans to release dual-core Intel Xeon MP processors codenamed Paxville for servers with 4 or more processors later this year (previously planned for these processors only in 2021). For dual-socket servers and workstations, Intel plans to introduce a high-performance dual-core Intel Xeon processor, codenamed Paxville DP, this year. Paxville DP processors will have 50% better performance than previous generations and will be based on the Intel E7520 chipset.
Paxville DP processors are for those looking to use and evaluate dual-core processors. This will be followed by a wider range of platforms based on Intel Xeon dual-core processors, codenamed Bensley, in Q1 2021. Bensley platforms will drive rapid, proactive migration to dual-core processors across all Intel server and workstation platform lines.
Both Paxville 64-bit processors and Paxville DP processors will support Hyper-Threading technology, which allows a single dual-core processor to simultaneously execute four threads of instructions. The platforms will also include advanced security features, including the Execute Disable Bit feature, and optimized power management based on Demand Based Switching technology.
Intel is currently developing 17 multi-core processor projects and
believes over 85% of server processors will be multi-core in 2021. In addition to Intel Xeon processors slated for release in 2021, Intel began shipping dual-core Intel Pentium D processors for single-processor servers this July, and will begin shipping dual-core Intel Itanium processors at the end of the year.
Intel’s 2021 Pilot Test Program, which begins today ? early 2021, thousands of platforms based on dual-core Intel Pentium D, Intel Xeon, Intel Xeon MP and Intel Itanium processors will be provided to the first software buyers and developers.
