Elpida’s new memory for portable devices

Japanese company Elpida Memory, one of the world’s leading memory suppliers, announced the release of new 256 Mbit SDRAM chips. The novelty is focused on use in portable battery-powered devices: cameras, camcorders, pocket computers, where low power consumption and high data storage density are valued. Microcircuits are designed for low supply voltage and have a compact size.

Some technical data of the EDS2532EEBH-xx-E and EDS2532JEBH-xx-E chips:

  • Logical organization – 8 million 32-bit words
  • Supply voltage – from 1.8 to 2.5 V, depending on the modification
  • Operating frequency – 166 MHz.

The production of microcircuits is adjusted at the production facilities of the company located in Hiroshima. A 0.10-micron manufacturing process was chosen for the manufacture of memory. Available in two design options: FBGA and unpackaged for use in System-in-Package (SiP) or Multi-Chip Package (MCP) configurations. Mass shipments of the new memory are scheduled for September this year.
