The graphics chip market as seen by Jon Peddie Research

Jon Peddie Research, Market Analysis and Forecasting Company, Prepares State of the Art PC Graphics Chip Market Report. According to the estimates of the researchers, in the second quarter, shipments of the corresponding products amounted to 61.4 million units, which is 2% more than in the first quarter of this year and 12.9% higher than in the same period last year.

Desktop graphics shipments up 2.1% to 46.5 million, up from 8.4% when integrated desktop solutions are included, according to published data. In the segment of mobile computers, shipments grew by 1.8%, close to 15 million (growth with integrated graphics solutions was 10.3%).

The basis for the growth of the mobile segment was provided by ATI, whose plans we recently talked about. In particular, thanks to shipments of the Radeon Xpress 200M, shipments in the last quarter increased by 50%. Intel increased 7.4% to maintain its lead in mobile graphics vendors despite ATI’s bid to pull ahead in Q1 results.

In terms of solutions for desktop computers, the confrontation between ATI and NVIDIA continues. At the moment, the quantitative advantage is on the side of ATI, which was able to increase shipments by 6.2%, while NVIDIA shipments fell by 7.5%. ATI owes its success to its line of integrated graphics devices, which more than tripled in shipments during the period under review.

Overall, Intel accounts for 43.7% of the market, ATI 26.8%, NVIDIA 15.9%.
