RFID reader iClass with Wiegand interface

HID Corporation Introduces HID R10 RFID Reader, which uses
IClass RFID technology and
designed to work as part of access control systems and other applications.
R10 performs contactless reading of codes and data from smart cards, key fobs and
tags using iClass technology and transmits their identification code to
Wiegand access controller. This RFID reader can work
both with iClass smartcards and Mifare cards, and in addition to access control
can be used in other corporate systems as well. Contactless reception of codes and
data from carriers is carried out by an RFID reader at a frequency of 13.56
MHz at
distance to the information carrier no more than 76 mm.

The new reader has a small body measuring 76x44x19 mm, in which
accommodates an antenna module, a microcircuit and a microcontroller with a Wiegand interface,
through which the reader is connected to the access system controller. Chip R10
stores secret keys for various applications in memory sectors and supports
low-level functions for providing access to smartcards. Exchange of secret
keys and transfer of data (or access code) from the card to the RFID reader
occurs at a distance between devices of 76 mm.
Power – DC source
with tension
10-16V.

Like Proximity Card Readers, the R10 RFID Reader uses
radio frequency identification technology (Radio Frequency IDentification)
Technology – RFID), but unlike them, it transmits and receives data on
frequency of 13.56 MHz, to which the antennas of key fobs, smart cards and tags are tuned
iClass, and accepts the access code or data from the card only after a match
secret keys of the card and reader. At the same time, unlike readers
Mifare, iClass RFID readers have more serious passcode protection from
“hacking” because they use secret 64-bits
the keys.

The new iClass R10 reader has a price comparable to that of the simplest
proximity reader, so HID recommends using
iClass devices for access control systems that are built from scratch. When
the cost of such an access system will be slightly higher, but its owner
gets the opportunity to use smart cards not only for restriction and control
access, but also in various internal corporate applications, for example, to enter
for car parking or payment for goods and services in intracorporate
trade and catering enterprises. In this case, it is necessary to use the models
iClass smartcards with 2 or 16 memory sectors, each of which will contain
the data for the respective application is stored.

The R10 housing is made of gray or black polycarbonate, resistant to
atmospheric precipitation and mechanical stress. Reader in working order
cards consume a current of no more than 300 mA and reliably operates in the range
temperatures from -30?From to +65?FROM. For wall mounting
RFID reader
mounts in a standard back box, and can also be mounted on
metal surface.
