NVIDIA is confidently leading, but only in the high-end segment
According to a source referring to Mercury Research and Taiwanese manufacturers of graphics adapters, in the second half of 2021, NVIDIA is likely to retain its leadership in the segment of high-performance graphics solutions. And all thanks to the fact that the announcement of ATI’s flagship GPU was significantly delayed compared to the announcement of the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX, which entered the market in June.
Delays in the release of the ATI R520 to the market led, in turn, to the fact that a number of OEMs preferred to use the GeForce 7800 in their high-end systems, the mass (if, of course, this term is applicable in this case) which will be delivered in fourth quarter of this year.
NVIDIA currently controls approximately 73% of the market for high-end GPUs that support DirectX9 in hardware, respectively, with ATI accounting for 27%, down 2% from Q2.
At the same time, in general, in terms of sales of graphics processors, taking into account chipsets with integrated graphics, NVIDIA, on the contrary, lost 2% of the market and now controls only 16%, while ATI accounts for 26%, and Intel – 43%. As for the market of mass solutions (t. n. mainstream) with DirectX9 support, then here too ATI’s positions are stronger – the company controls 54%, which is 3% better than last quarter, and NVIDIA – 46%.
