“Computer on a stick”

An interesting product was offered by the FingerGear company. For $ 149 online, you can buy what the company calls Computer-On-a-Stick, a USB flash drive that contains a Linux operating system and an office suite.

“Computer” is password protected and, according to the manufacturer, can be used on any Windows or Linux system with a USB port. The memory of the drive is used to store user data: address book, e-mail messages, office documents.

Computer-On-a-Stick reportedly contains Linux 2 kernel.6.x and the Gnome shell. Included Office Suite – OpenOffice Development.org. It is compatible with popular Microsoft Office document formats including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The set of installed programs also includes a FireFox browser, a program for creating and viewing PDF documents, an archiver and a network tool that supports Yahoo IM, MSN Messenger, AIM and Napster.

All installed programs fit into a 256-megabyte drive, leaving room for a “private” data area (accessible only after booting from a device) and a “public” area (access to which is possible by standard means of the system to which the drive is connected).

Three options for the exterior design of the case are available: blue, silver and transparent.

Not a bad idea, although the price looks, to put it mildly, somewhat overpriced. And they probably got excited about the name ..
