AMD is preparing for the imminent release of 64-bit Sempron
It is possible that by the end of next month, Advanced Micro Devices will release 64-bit versions of the Sempron microprocessor. According to the messages that have appeared, the new processors will be labeled 2600+, 2800+, 3000+, 3100+ and 3300+. Chips supporting AMD64 technology will be compatible with existing motherboards for Socket 754 (possibly after a BIOS update).
As a reminder, since February of this year, AMD Sempron processors for Socket 754 with an integrated single-channel memory controller have been manufactured using 90nm silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology.
It is known that competing with AMD company Intel also announced its intention to release 64-bit entry-level processors, but so far no specific release dates and product specifications have been disclosed. According to some reports, the new Intel Celeron processors for Socket 775 with support for EM64T will be designed for the 533 MHz system bus, equipped with 256 KB of L2 cache, and their operating frequencies will be in the range from 2.53 to 3.33 GHz.
If confirmed, entry-level buyers will soon be able to experience systems based on 64-bit AMD or Intel processors.
