MRV Expands XFP Replacement 10Gbps Optical Interfaces

MRV, a provider of solutions for metropolitan IP networks and fiber-optic communication lines, announced the expansion of the range of manufactured replaceable XFP optical modules designed for signal transmission at 10 Gigabit speeds. These transceivers are designed for installation in equipment for 10 Gbps Ethernet, OC-192 (STM-64) and 10 Gbps Fiber Channel, with corresponding expansion slots.

Among the new XFP models are the XFP-10GD-SR transceivers, designed to connect equipment via multimode cable at short (up to 300 m) distances. The XFP-10GD-LR operates with 1310 nm single-mode optical cable and supports connections up to 10 km, while the XFP-10GD-IR2 interface operates up to 40 km (1550 nm).

XFP (10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable) ? is a pluggable interface specification that supports 10 Gigabit Gigabit Ethernet and SONET / SDH as well as 10G Fiber Channel and a range of other new high-speed applications. XFP modules are slightly larger than SFP transceivers, while having a much more powerful digital diagnostic system for monitoring the health of optical lines. MRV has its own production of optical components, including DWDM / CWDM and XFP.

Thus, MRV offers a full range of 10-Gigabit optical interfaces to meet any design and installation challenge for today’s high-speed networks. Moreover, the use of MRV equipment of the FiberDriver and LambdaDriver series allows to increase the range of 10 Gbps connections to 80 km or more in the event of such problems.

MRV XFP modules can be used in various types of equipment, including converters, switches and WDM systems. So, converters EM316-2XFP have two connectors for installing replaceable XFP interfaces, which allows flexible configuration of any type of 10-Gigabit media converters by choosing the appropriate optical modules. The new MRV DaVinci series Gigabit switches are equipped with 10 Gigabit interfaces, also using removable optical modules. The TM-DXFP8 and TM-DXFP4 transponders for the LambdaDriver platform are equipped with XFP input interfaces and can transmit a significant (up to 64) number of 10 Gigabit channels over a single pair of fibers.
