ZyXEL DSL modems are TR-069 certified
ZyXEL Communications, a manufacturer of DSL routers, among other things, and Fine Point Technologies, a software provider for carrier networks, in a joint press release announce the successful completion of testing DSL modems for compliance with the TR-069 control protocol specification, which allows to implement a convenient infrastructure for management subscriber devices and user support in the mass provision of DSL access services and compatibility with Fine Point software systems for remote control and maintenance of subscriber equipment. The certification guarantees that ZyXEL DSL modems fully comply with the requirements of the TR-069 protocol and the processes of their installation, diagnostics, configuration and software updates can be automated as much as possible, which will allow operators to reduce the costs of maintaining and servicing a growing base of subscriber devices and user support, and flexibly and provide new communication services and Triple Play in broadband access networks with minimal costs.
The TR-069 protocol was adopted in 2021 and is promoted by the DSL Forum consortium with the aim of standardizing the principles and approaches for managing subscriber equipment from different manufacturers when providing multimedia services in broadband IP and DSL networks. This task today, with the massive provision of services and the need to meet the conflicting requirements of providing secure access to the Network and the simultaneous provision of multimedia communication services, IP-telephony and online games to subscribers, becomes especially urgent.
The TR-069 protocol assumes the implementation in the operator’s network of a server (cluster of dedicated servers) of automatic control (ACS, Auto-Configuration Server), which organizes the interaction with subscriber modems, routers and other local network equipment, for example, IP phones, via IP protocols, and stored procedures on them (Remote Procedure Call), updating drivers and firmware, diagnosing the state of equipment and lines and making the necessary settings. SSL and TLS protocols are used to provide secure access and management.
At the same time, TR-069 implements automatic configuration of subscriber equipment in all common service delivery scenarios today:
- the equipment is provided by the operator upon conclusion of the contract
- the equipment is purchased by the subscriber in the form of a kit for connecting to the operator’s network
- the equipment is purchased by the subscriber independently and does not have preliminary settings for the operator’s network.
