ALLIED TELESYN: the first multi-protocol managed modular media converter

Allied Telesyn, an Ethernet / IP-based solution provider, today announced Converteon, a new multi-protocol managed media converter system for transporting telecommunications traffic such as E1 / T1 and RS-232 serial traffic, as well as Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet with one unified platform. Service providers and large enterprises with extensive corporate networks can now terminate multi-transport services at a single point, thereby reducing management, operating and capital costs.

The Converteon family initially includes two platforms: the AT-CV5000 with 18 slots and the AT-CV1000 with one slot. More platforms will be released later in 2021.

AT-CV5000 is an 18-slot platform designed to be deployed in the center of a star network where it connects via fiber to other Converteon devices. The 2U chassis can accommodate 18 blades, making this multi-protocol chassis the highest port density on the market today. High density and small physical size, the platform is ideal for deploying FTTH applications at the point of presence (POP).

CV1000 – Single-slot remote site platform that accepts one Converteon blade. Both chassis use the same media blades for ease of maintenance and installation.

Converteon’s wide range of media blades provide twisted pair Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over single mode or multimode fiber up to 80 km. These modules are produced with both IEEE 802 support.3ah and without it, providing connectivity for service providers and enterprise customers. In addition to Ethernet-only blades, there are E1 / T1 modules that enable service providers to upgrade existing E1 / T1 fiber links by installing a Converteon chassis at either end of the fiber link. This connection will be able to support the existing E1 / T1 link and additional 100BaseTx connection, providing end users with high-speed broadband service or inter-office connection, as well as additional profits for the service provider. E1 / T1 card also supports 802 remote control.3ah.

For corporate customers using communication devices based on a serial RS232 interface, Converteon provides the ability to transparently transmit RS232 traffic over a fiber optic pair.
